HOW TO MAKE FUNNY (BEGINNER)
KID| Ages 5-8 | 9:00-10:30 AM
This is John’s signature comedy course that he’s taught for Disney Channel, which teaches the math to make people laugh! Students learn how to build 3-step comedic climbs, how to escalate the stakes and how to set-up, reinforce and deliver the 180 reversals and learn John’s “word game”. Plus, John will teach how substituting simple punctuations can change everything in comedies. Get ready to have your funny bone tickled while learning the essential components of great comedic performances.

 NAILING THE DISNEY/NICK TEST SCENE
YOUTH | Ages: 9-12 | 10:45 AM – 12:15 PM
Disney and Nickelodeon require a special energy that is not only dynamic and lively, but is grounded in the show’s reality. Often, actors think this means they need to “overact” and create a “cartoon version” of their character. Disney and Nick want real kids who have a strong sense of self and can “find the funny” in almost every line. John teaches students the different archetypes and how they behave. Learn how to build believable characters in the genre, identify specific characteristics of notable character tropes, and how to bring your authentic self to it!

STRANGER KIDS: MYSTERY AND ‘WHO DONE IT’S’
YOUTH | Ages: 9-12 | 12:30 – 2:00 PM
Who stole the school mascot? Are there really ghosts in the Amityville Hotel? Where did the dead bank robbers bury all the gold? TV mysteries come in all kinds, shapes and sizes and many of them for kids! This class focuses on preparing young actors for auditioning for television and film mysteries. Students will learn the archetypal characters in most mysteries, what is their function and how do they serve the story?  Come join the fun and learn loads about how to make strong and specific choices in your auditions for TV MYSTERIES

.

PART 1: ANATOMY OF CRIME DRAMAS, THRILLERS, AND MYSTERIES
TEEN/ADULT | Ages: 13+ | 2:30-4:00 PM
Step into a world where every shadow hides a secret, and every character has a dark side waiting to be revealed. Knowing the character archetypes and understanding the tools to build suspense in these genres are key. Keeping the audience in a heightened state of alert is part of the job. In this course, we will examine the elements that make these genres so captivating and exhilarating!

PART 2: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
(Not the Western)

TEEN/ADULT | Ages: 13+ | 4:15-5:45 PM
You must attend ‘Part 1’  (Anatomy of Crime Dramas) of this course in order to take ‘Part 2’

Are you the hero? The antihero? The cold-blooded killer? The red herring in a mystery or the victim? In Part 2 of this Class Series, students will take what they’ve learned in the previous course and directly apply it to their scene. Let’s have fun learning to keep the audience in suspense for as long as possible. Find out if your character lives!!!
