LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!!! Those three words spark excitement in every young actor’s hearts. But, without the proper training in front of the camera, most actors melt when the lights turn on.
It’s challenging to deliver a compelling performance while trying to remember lines as your character eats lunch at a busy café. Will the actor remember to eat their chicken with the fork in their left hand, while drinking their lemonade with their right? Will they remember to do so on exactly the right line of dialogue at, exactly the same time, from take to take? Will they know exactly how many steps they must walk to arrive at their “mark” without looking down at the ground? Remember, if you miss your “mark” you might be out of focus or block your fellow castmate from the camera. So, how do you captivate your audience with a brilliant performance while seamlessly arriving on your mark without looking down?
These virtual and in-person (practical) courses will teach actors how to use an “activity” to help ground their character, demonstrate how to match their actions in continuity exercises while eating a meal and performing in an ensemble scene. It will also show the actors how to perform their scene during a physical “walk-and-talk” exercise without blocking your fellow actor from the camera or looking down at the ground to locate your mark.

Imagine, you’re watching a fantastic scene between two characters. One character drinks out of a mug and in the next shot, the mug is gone. You could be giving a tremendous performance, but if the continuity is off, the audience won’t be focusing on it.
In this class, students will perform an ensemble scene involving eating and drinking. They must then match what they did previously in a second take. Students that aren’t performing will be tasked as Script Supervisorwhere they will track one of the actor’s blocking, aiding them in making sure they replicate their movements in the initial take.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6TH

When it comes to blocking in front of the camera, actors are tasked with hitting their marks, delivering their lines, and using any props consistently while staying in character and delivering an authentic performance. Wow! In this two-part class, students will work on ensemble scenes that utilize specific blocking all while delivering a performance in front of the camera.
