 SCHEDULE SATURDAY, JANUARY 20TH MAGIC RECTANGLE (BEGINNER) YOUTH| Ages 9-13 | 9:00-11:00 AM TEEN/ADULT| Ages 14+ | 1:30-3:30 PM This class helped launch so many careers. Take all the confusion out of auditions and learn how to perform for the camera. The Magic Rectangle is John’s technique for delivering dynamic and indelible on-camera performances. John’s simple math will immediately improve student’s taped auditions by imposing structure on the imaginary fourth wall canvas that exists around the camera. His first signature class is a great place to start if you have not previously trained with him. He’s taught this class to thousands of actors across the country and in Hollywood. Get ready for your taped auditions to dramatically improve! MAGIC RECTANGLE (ADVANCED): SCENE WORK YOUTH| Ages 9-13 | 11:00 AM-1:00 PM TEEN/ADULT| Ages 14+ | 4:00-6:00 PM *You must have previously taken the Beginner Course in order to take this Advanced Class Actors learn to apply John’s Magic Rectangle Technique in a scene that they will perform with several off-camera partners while learning to direct that performance into the emotional dynamic zone that exists around the camera. John’s camera games/exercises teach students the meaning of “eye-lines” and to which off-camera character they must focus their primary dramatic emphasis. This class will change how you audition as well as help you deliver captivating performances for TV and film. FREE MIXER TEEN/ADULT| Ages 14+ | 6:00-7:00 PM Join John after Saturday’s Classes for appetizers and drinks to kick off an exciting weekend of classes!   SUNDAY, JANUARY 2ST EXPLORING THE WORLD OF COMEDY TEEN/ADULT | Ages 14+ | 10:00 AM-12:00 PM From Rom-Com to Sit-Com, Single-Cam to Dramedy (Oy, my head is spinning), there’s a lot to know about how to adjust your performance for each of those sub-genres. Despite having similar comedic rhythms and setups, each sub-genre has their own nuances and filming styles. In this masterclass, we will review each genre, showing scenes from popular comedies within the genre (Eighth Grade to Seinfeld and Modern Family to Grand Budapest Hotel and Abbott Elementary). We will then dig deep within those scenes, specifically emphasizing the genre differences so that students can learn to identify and modify their performances. Having appeared in many of these styles throughout his career, John will share his on-set experience and wealth of comedic knowledge and insight as to best prepare YOU for your next comedic audition! ACTIVE INTERROGATION TEEN/ADULT | Ages 14+ | 12:30-2:30 PM Simply put, this course will make you a better actor and take it to the next level. Acting Interrogation is John’s signature technique that infuses true human reaction into scripted lines. Actors typically experience a disconnect between how they would organically respond versus how they respond to a line of dialogue that they were anticipating. This technique can be taught to young actors as well as adults. It applies the instinctive human traits that you use everyday to determine everything from whether you’re hungry to whether or not you are in danger. The great thing is, you’re already doing it! You’re just not applying it to your scripted work. John guarantees that if you practice this technique, your craft will rise to the next level and beyond. PERFORMING IN STYLIZED TV DRAMAS TEEN/ADULT | Ages 14+ | 3:00-5:30 PM In a world over-saturated with content, some shows standout from the rest. They captivate us with the world they build, and have a specific stylethat informs the world in which the characters exist. In this class, we’ll dive into scenes from shows that have a very specific tone and world. Shows like WEDNESDAY, THE LAST OF US, EUPHORIA, SUCCESSION, THE BEAR, and more. Actors will examine the elements that determine the style and why they stand out.
